Linear Algebra

This Saylor Foundation course introduces the student to the study of linear algebra, the theory and practice of analyzing linear relations and their behavior under linear transformations. Practically every modern technology relies on linear algebra: simplifying the computations required for internet searches, 3-D animation, coordination of safety systems, financial trading, air traffic control, and everything in between. Five major topics are addressed: linear systems of equations, vector spaces, matrices and linear transformations, determinants, similarity, and eigenvalues. This free course may be completed online at any time. See course site for detailed overview and learning outcomes.

Linear Algebra II

Linear Algebra is both rich in theory and full of interesting applications (from simplifying internet search algorithms to managing air traffic); in this course, the student will try to balance both. This Saylor Foundation course includes a review of topics learned in Linear Algebra I, and continues through matrices, the spectral theorem, vector spaces, and more. This free course may be completed online at any time. See course site for detailed overview and learning outcomes.

Real Analysis I

This Saylor Foundation course is designed to introduce the student to the rigorous examination of the real number system and the foundations of calculus. Analysis lies at the heart of the trinity of higher mathematics—algebra, analysis, and topology—because it is where the other two fields meet. Students will move beyond reliance on the real line and informal techniques of finding limits toward developing rigorous proofs in wilder, more complicated mathematical situations. This free course may be completed online at any time. See course site for detailed overview and learning outcomes.

Local Area Networks

A local area network (LAN) is a high-speed data network over a small physical area (i.e. an office, a building, or a campus). LANs often connect different computers, printers, servers, and other devices to enable shared access and facilitate exchange between network users. This Saylor foundation course will introduce the student to local area networks, the protocols they use, and the various layers that constitute a network. This free course may be completed online at any time. See course site for detailed overview and learning outcomes.
